Aloha,
My name is Jeff Gross, and I’m excited to step into the role of leader for Maui Float On Swim Lessons. Rather than bore you with the usual biographical rundown, I’d like to share a story that reflects the magic of both Maui and the incredible connections we create in this world.
From 2011 to 2013, I served as the Associate Head Coach of the Island Stingrays in Tai Tam, Hong Kong. Those years were filled with memorable moments, and I had the privilege of coaching many talented kids while forming lasting relationships with their families. One family stood out in particular: the Bergmans. Jane Bergman was a warm, welcoming presence, and her daughter—let’s call her Sonia—was a delight to coach.
Fast forward more than a decade. Life took me on an unexpected journey that led to Maui and this incredible opportunity. As I was diving into the company’s history, something surprising happened. I came across a familiar name in our email records that stopped me in my tracks: Jane Bergman.
Could it be the same Bergmans from Hong Kong? It felt impossible—but somehow, I immediately knew. Since my time in Hong Kong, Jane has welcomed two more children, who are now students at Maui Float On Swim Lessons.
This serendipitous reunion is a testament to the magic of Maui—a place where paths cross and connections endure, sometimes in the most unexpected ways. How many of us have had these “only on Maui” experiences? Mahalo nui loa to all of you who make this land and community extraordinary. I’m thrilled to be here, to meet you, and to help continue the tradition of excellence that Maui Float On is known for.
Warmest aloha,
Jeff
